Course Aim

T
o provide delegates with a broad knowledge of oil spill response activities allowing them to undertake a site supervisor role or to perform functions in tactical teams within Incident Command Systems, including On-Scene Commander.

Clearance Course - Competence Based Training
With twenty years of successfully training the oil and gas industry, the Oil Spill Clearance Course has become the flagship course for Oil Spill Response and remains the global benchmark for oil spill training. In these twenty years, the programme has undergone revisions, modifications and a natural evolution, but has now emerged from a period of intensive overhaul, review and modification for 2008. The core values will, of course, remain the same but with more emphasis
on hands-on practical training and response tactics.

The mode of delivery has shifted to a more functional approach using Competence Based Training, whereby delegates learn, apply and remember through syndicate exercises and practical training.

The wide range of topics covered delivers a valuable learning experience for delegates from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines to equip them with a solid foundation in oil spill matters. The skills and knowledge acquired should make participants of this course an extremely valuable addition to any oil spill team.

Completely new for 2008
Delegates now have the chance to be awarded with a certificate of competence by choosing the assessment option. Delegates who choose the assessment option will be continually observed and assessed on practical and table-top exercises. The delegate will be measured against an Oil Spill Response occupational standard for On-Scene Commanders under the Oil Spill Response OPITO approved Competence Management System. Candidates that pass the assessment will be awarded an OPITO approved certificate of competence.
