The
Global Response Network (GRN) was established in 2005 to formalise the long-standing
relationship between OSRL/EARL and Marine Spill Response Corporation(MSRC).
Since its launch it has developed a rich and meaningful collaboration between
seven major oil industry funded spill response organisations. The GRN provides
a framework of support to one another to develop a broader alliance of benchmarking
and knowledge sharing and
provide increased effectiveness in oil spill preparedness and response.
THE KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE GRN:
1. Enhancing the utilisation of oil industry funded, not-for-profit resources
around
the globe.
2. The coordination of information that will benefit all parties in the event
of an
incident.
3. Sharing best practice so each organisation can learn from each other and
continue to improve
its capability.
THE GRN MEMBERS
• Oil Spill Response and East Asia Response Limited (OSRL/EARL)
• Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC)
• Alaska Clean Seas (ACS)
• Australian Marine Oil Spill Centre (AMOSC)
• Clean Caribbean and Americas (CCA)
• Eastern Canada Response Corporation (ECRC)
• Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC)
WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED
Spills
As incidents reduce so does the opportunity of experiencing real scenarios.
The GRN gives members the opportunity of gaining such experience and providing
some support through attending each other’s incidents as happened in
both the Katrina hurricane and the Alaska North Slope.
Secondments continue between MSRC and OSRL/EARL and
also with AMOSC.
There have been a number of valuable secondments among GRN members, particularly
MSRC, OSRL/EARL and AMOSC. These give individuals the opportunity of working
and learning in global environments and create a better understanding of different
working practices.
SUPPORT SERVICES
Often, one organisation has more knowledge and experience than another in
certain issues. The GRN allows better utilisation of that expertise, as in
the exchange when MSRC provided their Corporate Safety Manager for an independent
assessment of CCA's programme. Similarly information has been exchanged on
out-of-hours call out systems, volatile organic compounds in oil spills, HSE
matters and much more.
